The 7 Dimension Webgraph

The key to the 7 Dimensions of Singing is breaking down the mechanical complexities of the voice into a way that’s easy to understand. The webgraph allows you to see your current vocal skills relative to each dimension. More importantly, it helps you identify which type of exercises will be needed to create a more balanced voice to maximize YOUR abilities as a singer. After learning how the webgraph works in the video below, scroll down to start working on the dimension of your voice that needs the most attention today!

Your Vocal Profile Results

According to your initial Vocal Profile assessment, the dimension of flexibility is the best place for you to start your journey. Flexibility has to do with the responsiveness and movement of the vocal folds, which we use to produce sound. It’s important because the folds need to vibrate at hundreds of times per second in order to sing freely. Let’s try an exercise right out of the Vocal Gym Course to loosen, stretch and relax the folds, so they become more… well… flexible! Follow along with the guided exercise video below and then use the piano track (MP3) to practice on the go.

Exercise Components

Formant: Lip Trill  |  Feature: N/A  |  Pattern: G5-1-8-5  |  Volume: Medium  |  Tempo: Mid  |  Variable: N/A

Need to make it easier?

Change the LipTrill to a Tongue Roll or NG sound. Both the tongue roll and NG formants provide a similar degree of back pressure (making it easy for the folds to stretch), keeping the focus of the exercise on track for flexibility.

Want to make it more challenging?

Slow it down! A slow tempo will shift the focus of the exercise a little from flexibility to range because it requires more stability and coordination of the muscles to navigate between registers. In addition, the slow tempo makes it challenging to maintain a steady adjustment of the pitch.
