Face Your Fears and Sing

It’s totally OK and normal to be scared. That means you’re about to do something really brave!
The pros always look so confident when they’re on stage. This is hard for those of us who struggle with stage fright or let our nerves get the best of us, because it can come out when we sing, too.
Over the years, I had found that even professional singers, with the best voices, have the same feelings of fear, just like everyone else.
The voice is such a personal instrument. It is a representation of you! Auditioning, singing in a show, a voice lesson, a recording session, even karaoke with friends – those are some of the instances in which singers are faced with the courageous decision to use their instrument in front of an audience. The audience could be very supportive and encouraging or highly critical.
As singers, we have to give ourselves permission to use our instrument courageously. People may love it. Some may hate it. You have no way of predicting the outcome. You have to be with whatever happens. There is a quote I love by an unknown author –
“The weight of one’s opinion Is only as heavy as you allow it to be.”
When you face your fears and demonstrate courage, you will inspire others. You are giving them inspiration to follow their own dreams.
So be brave, get out there, and share your unique voice with the world! Your voice needs to be heard! Confidence will come from bravery.
